Where are Chrome screen recordings saved?
Showesome saves Chrome screen recordings in Recordings History on your device — not in Downloads and not on Showesome servers. Download MP4 or WebM when you want a separate file.

Showesome saves Chrome screen recordings in Recordings History, inside Chrome on your device. They do not go to the Downloads folder, and they are not stored on Showesome servers. Use Download MP4 or Download WebM when you want a separate file you can attach or move.
This guide covers where the library lives, how to open it, how export differs from the saved clip, and what removes recordings.
Where each copy lives
| Place | What you will find |
|---|---|
| Recordings History | Every finished Showesome clip, saved automatically in Chrome on this device |
| Downloads (or a folder you pick) | A copy only after Download MP4 or Download WebM |
| Google Drive, Dropbox, or YouTube | A copy only after you connect that service and upload a clip you choose |
| Showesome servers | Nothing — Showesome does not host your videos |
The library page subtitle is Manage and download your screen recordings. Search, filters, and Compact / Large / List layouts are covered in the recordings library guide.
1. Open Recordings History
- Click the Showesome icon in the Chrome toolbar.
- Click the recordings icon in the popup header (tooltip: View Recordings).
- Chrome opens Recordings History in a new tab.
You can also open the popup RECORDINGS card for statistics, then View All & Manage. Getting Started step 8 highlights the same path.
2. Download MP4 or WebM when you need a file
The clip is already in the library. Download creates an extra copy outside Chrome.
- Open the clip from Recordings History (or use the row’s download actions).
- On preview, click Convert to MP4 if you need MP4 — conversion runs on your device. Convert WebM to MP4 in Chrome.
- Click Download MP4 or Download WebM. Chrome saves that file to Downloads (or the folder Chrome asks you to pick).
The library copy stays until you delete it. Sending the MP4 in Slack, email, or a ticket uses the downloaded file, not a Showesome link.
3. Know what removes the library copy
Recordings stay in Recordings History until one of these happens:
- You delete a clip, or Clear All, inside Showesome.
- Chrome clears the extension’s saved data, or you uninstall Showesome.
- Storage is very full. At 85% Showesome keeps your 5 most recent recordings. At 95% it keeps your 2 most recent recordings.
Downloaded MP4/WebM files in Downloads are normal files. Deleting them does not remove the library copy, and deleting the library copy does not remove a file you already downloaded.
Optional cloud upload is separate. Nothing is sent to Drive, Dropbox, or YouTube until you connect an account and upload a clip. Preview and optional cloud.
Are Chrome screen recordings in the Downloads folder?
Only after you download them. Showesome’s automatic save is Recordings History in the extension. Download MP4 or Download WebM is what puts a file in Downloads.
Does Showesome store recordings in the cloud?
No, not by default. Clips stay in Chrome on your device. Drive, Dropbox, and YouTube receive a copy only when you connect that service and choose to upload. Details: screen recorder that does not upload.
Where do Windows or Mac built-in recorders save files?
Those tools use their own folders, not Recordings History. Xbox Game Bar uses Videos → Captures. macOS Screenshot and QuickTime usually save a .mov on the Desktop or a folder you set. This page is for Showesome in Chrome.

- Open Recordings History from the popup — the clip should already be listed.
- Download MP4 or Download WebM only when you need a file outside Chrome.
- Delete old clips in the library if storage is getting full.
- Connect Drive, Dropbox, or YouTube only for clips you choose to upload.
