How to upload a Chrome screen recording to YouTube

Upload one Showesome recording to YouTube from Chrome. Connect YouTube in Upload to Cloud, send the clip you choose, and keep the library copy on your device.

How to upload a Chrome screen recording to YouTube

You can upload a Chrome screen recording to YouTube from Showesome after you connect YouTube and choose that clip. Stop the recording first. Showesome saves it in Recordings History on your device. YouTube receives a copy only when you upload that clip.

Showesome is a free Chrome extension. It records a Chrome tab, a window, or the entire screen, and it can record Screen Only, Camera Only, or Screen + Camera. The export is a local MP4 or WebM with no watermark. Google Drive, Dropbox, and YouTube are optional, and each one is separate.

Where the file is before YouTube

Place What it holds
Recordings History The clip, on this device, as soon as you stop
Downloads An extra copy only after Download MP4 or Download WebM
YouTube A copy only after you connect YouTube and upload that clip

Drive and Dropbox use the same rule. Where Chrome screen recordings are saved.

1. Record and stop

  1. Open the Showesome popup and choose Screen + Camera, Screen Only, or Camera Only.
  2. Set the microphone when you want narration. For sound playing in a site, click Start Recording, pick Chrome tab, and turn on Also share tab audio.
  3. Stop with the stop square on the control bar, or press Alt+Shift+S. The clip is in Recordings History. It is not on YouTube yet.

2. Open Upload to Cloud

Open Upload to Cloud from either place:

  • The cloud icon on Recordings History
  • Cloud actions on the preview header

The modal lists Google Drive, Dropbox, and YouTube. 0 of 3 connected is the normal start. A Not connected row has not received a clip.

3. Connect YouTube only

This is the extension screen where you connect YouTube and the other clouds. Under Manage Accounts, Google Drive, Dropbox, and YouTube each have a Connect button.

Upload to Cloud in Showesome, with Connect on Google Drive, Dropbox, and YouTube

  1. Click Connect on the YouTube row.
  2. Sign in through YouTube in Chrome. That login is your YouTube account. Recording and MP4 export do not need a Showesome account.
  3. Leave Google Drive and Dropbox on Not connected when you only want YouTube. Connecting one service does not connect the others.

Connected rows show Disconnect. You can connect Drive and Dropbox and still leave YouTube off, or connect YouTube and leave the other two off.

4. Upload the clip you choose

From preview or Recordings History, upload the recording you want on YouTube. That send is for the clip you pick. The other recordings stay in the local library.

Progress and sync badges show status while the copy goes out. YouTube stores that copy under your YouTube account and YouTube’s terms.

On YouTube, that copy opens on the current Details step. Reuse details can copy fields from an earlier video. This step is where the title, description, and thumbnail are set. A/B testing appears on the title when the channel has it. The same screen has a playlist choice, the audience question “Is this video made for kids?”, and Age restriction. Show more opens the newer settings, including Altered content and Automatic chapters. The steps across the top are Details, Video elements, Checks, and Visibility.

To keep an MP4 on disk as well, open the clip in preview and click Convert to MP4. Conversion runs on your device. Convert WebM to MP4 in Chrome. Uploading to YouTube is a separate step from that conversion.

5. Leave the local copy in place

The library copy stays on the device after the upload. Disconnect YouTube from the same Upload to Cloud modal whenever you want. Disconnecting does not delete local clips.

Delete one clip, or Clear All, in Recordings History when you mean to remove it from the library. That action is separate from the copy already on YouTube.

Does Showesome upload every recording to YouTube?

No. Recording, preview, and MP4 conversion stay in Chrome. A copy goes to YouTube only after you connect YouTube and upload that clip.

Do I need a Showesome account?

No. Install the extension, record, and export with no Showesome account. YouTube connect uses your YouTube login, and only when you want that upload.

Does the recording leave Recordings History after upload?

The local clip stays unless you delete it in Showesome. YouTube holds the copy you uploaded. A file you already downloaded is another copy, on disk.

Can I connect YouTube and skip Drive and Dropbox?

Yes. Each service is optional on its own. Connect YouTube, upload the clips you choose, and leave Drive and Dropbox disconnected.

Quick checklist

  1. Stop the recording so it is in Recordings History on this device.
  2. Open Upload to Cloud. 0 of 3 connected is expected until you connect a service.
  3. Click Connect on YouTube and sign in. Leave Drive and Dropbox off if you do not want them.
  4. Upload the one clip you want on YouTube, and watch the progress badge.
  5. On YouTube’s Details step, check the title, description, thumbnail, audience, and age restriction for that copy.
  6. Keep the local copy. Disconnect YouTube from the same modal when you are finished with the connection.
